Why do well-qualified candidates fail the ATS?

The two biggest reasons are Formatting Issues and Missing Keywords. Complex layouts, tables, and images cannot be read by ATS parsers—they extract blank pages. Likewise, if the job requires "Search Engine Optimization" but your resume only lists "SEO", the bot won't recognize the skill.

Qualified candidates often assume their skills speak for themselves. However, if those skills aren't framed in a way the ATS can recognize, their application may never reach human eyes. This is where many excellent candidates are unfairly screened out.

To avoid this, stick to standard headings like 'Experience' and 'Skills,' and use a clean, single-column layout. Avoid putting crucial information in the header or footer, as some parsers may skip these sections.
